Home/AI Assistant on WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage

An AI assistant you text on WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage

GAIA is a personal AI assistant you can text on WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage. Link your GAIA account once and it behaves like a contact who can actually do things: check and draft email, move meetings, add todos and run your workflows. It is the same assistant as the GAIA web and desktop apps, with the same connected tools and the same memory, and it messages you first when a workflow finishes or a reminder fires.

AI personal assistant on WhatsApp

Start a chat with GAIA's WhatsApp number from the bots page and link your account with the code GAIA gives you. From then on you write to it the way you write to anyone else. Ask what is on your calendar tomorrow, have it draft a reply to the email from your landlord, or tell it to remind you to call the bank on Friday.

Voice notes work: GAIA transcribes them and treats the transcript as your message, which is the fastest way to brain-dump a task list while walking. You can also send images and documents for it to read. Video and stickers are not supported yet, and GAIA tells you so instead of failing silently. WhatsApp support is currently labelled beta in GAIA's settings.

AI assistant Telegram bot

On Telegram, open a chat with @heygaia_bot. If you pick Telegram while signing up, the link button carries your code and the account links in one tap; otherwise send /auth and confirm the link on the web.

Telegram gets the full command set alongside plain conversation, so you can drive GAIA without typing whole sentences:

  • /todo to add or review todos
  • /workflow to list and run your workflows
  • /new to start a fresh conversation, /conversations to switch between them
  • /status, /settings and /stop to check, configure or interrupt a running task
  • /unlink to disconnect the chat from your GAIA account

AI personal assistant on iMessage

On an iPhone or Mac, link iMessage from Settings, then Linked accounts in GAIA by adding your phone number. GAIA then lives in Messages as an ordinary conversation, with no app to install.

Two details matter. iMessage works in one-to-one chats only, so GAIA ignores group threads. And Messages must send from your phone number rather than your Apple ID email; if yours sends from email, switch it under Settings, Messages, Send & Receive on your iPhone.

What GAIA can do from a chat

A message to GAIA reaches the same agent that runs the web app, so the chat is not a cut-down version. Whatever you have connected in GAIA is available from your phone:

  • Read, search, draft and send email in Gmail or Outlook
  • Check your calendar, find a free slot and create or move events
  • Add, update and finish todos, in GAIA or in tools like Todoist and Linear
  • Run a saved workflow, or set up a new one in plain language
  • Look things up on the web and summarize what it found
  • Remember what you tell it, so you never repeat your preferences

It texts you first

Most chat assistants only speak when spoken to. GAIA posts finished workflow results and fired reminders into your preferred chat, so a scheduled morning summary or a flagged urgent email lands in WhatsApp or Telegram without you asking.

GAIA delivers to one preferred chat platform rather than all of them at once. By default it tries Telegram, then WhatsApp, then Slack, then Discord; you can reorder them, iMessage included, under Where GAIA texts you in notification settings.

How to set up GAIA on WhatsApp, Telegram or iMessage

  1. 1. Create your GAIA account

Sign up at heygaia.io and answer the two onboarding questions about your work and what you want off your plate.

  2. 2. Pick your chat app

At the platform step, choose Telegram, WhatsApp or iMessage. GAIA hands you a one-tap link, so the first message you send links your account.

  3. 3. Connect the tools it should work in

In GAIA's integrations, connect Gmail or Outlook, Google Calendar and your task app. The chat can only act in tools you have connected.

  4. 4. Send a real request

Try something you would hand a human assistant: summarize today's unread email, or find 30 minutes with Priya next week.

  5. 5. Choose where it reaches you

Under Where GAIA texts you in notification settings, put your favourite chat app first so workflow results and reminders arrive there.

What it does not do

  • It cannot read your other WhatsApp, Telegram or iMessage conversations. GAIA only sees the messages you send to it.
  • It does not make or answer phone calls, and it does not control your phone.
  • It does not join group chats on iMessage, and video messages are not supported yet.

Common questions

Yes. GAIA runs as a WhatsApp contact: you message its number, link your GAIA account once, and it can read and draft email, manage your calendar, add todos and run workflows from the chat. Voice notes are transcribed, and you can send images and documents for it to read.

No. GAIA is a separate conversation, like any contact. It sees what you send to it and nothing else, so your other chats stay private.

The conversation goes to the same agent, so it can use every tool you have connected. Some things are easier on the web, such as editing a long workflow or browsing your memory, but asking, delegating and running workflows all work from Telegram.

No. GAIA's hosted service is a paid subscription, and the chat apps are part of it rather than a separate free bot. If you self-host GAIA for personal, noncommercial use, you run it on your own server under the PolyForm Noncommercial license.

Yes. WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage, web and desktop all talk to one GAIA account, so a preference you mention in a voice note is there when you open the desktop app later.

GAIA works in one-to-one iMessage chats only and ignores group threads, and Messages must send from your phone number rather than your Apple ID email. It only sees the messages you send to it, never your other conversations, and it cannot place calls or control your iPhone.
